PBR Mailbag: Talking 2016 Middle Infielders And NCAA Clearinghouse

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

While high schools in the North have been playing for just a couple weeks, today marks the start of district tournaments in Florida. In South Carolina, this is the final week of the season and RHP Grant Holmes (Conway HS, SC) could be making his final high school start tonight if his team can’t sweep its series this week to make the playoffs. I’m heading to that game this afternoon and will update The Rode Report, but think about that scenario for a minute. If Conway can’t make the playoffs, Holmes’ last game action will have come about six weeks before the draft.

If you haven’t been already, be sure to keep up with our state scout blogs and the Draft Blog. They will be updated consistently with game reports from our staff members and the draft blog serves as a central hub for any content that is related to 2014 draft prospects.

On to your questions, which can be submitted on Ask.fm. I will take questions on the draft, national landscape and anything else big picture when it comes to high school baseball.

Who do you think are the top 2016 middle infielders and have the most projection in the PBR coverage area?
If you look at the 2016 Overall Rankings, there is a host of shortstops—six in the top 20 to be exact. This isn't really a surprise as we're talking about sophomores in high school and the best athletes play up-the-middle positions.
