COLUMBUS, OH - Despite Sparta Highland keeping it close through three innings, Bloom Carroll prevailed 5-0 after a five run fifth inning.

Sparta Highland junior LHP Dalton Stambaugh was a bit shaky out of the gate. But the Division I recruit settled in and attacked the Bulldogs’ lineup through the first three innings, including striking out the side in the second inning.

With each team struggling to strike first blood, Bloom Carroll capitalized in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior infielder Mitch Lambert advanced to second on a misplayed ball by the Scot’s left fielder.

Senior Scott Baker followed with a walk and senior Tyler Sorg drove in the first run of the game with a single up the middle.

Looking to apply pressure, junior infielder Chase Cattran bunted to move the runners into scoring position, but a throwing error to third base by Stambaugh allowed both runners to score and advanced Cattran to second base.

After recording his first out of the inning, Stambaugh allowed an infield hit to senior catcher Jarrett Peters (Seton Hill recruit).

Stambaugh responded by inducing an infield fly by junior right-fielder Roger Danison to record the second out of the inning.

But, before Sparta Highland could escape, junior first baseman Sam Bordner (Louisville recruit) hit a bloop single into left field to put the Bulldogs up 5-0.

Meanwhile, Bloom Carroll junior right-handed pitcher Corey Stanley was far from perfect, but he managed to hold the Scots hitless into the sixth inning. Stanley managed a shut-out performance allowing one hit and striking out five batters while walking four batters and hitting one.

Stambaugh took the loss allowing five runs over five innings of work. He allowed seven hits while walking two and striking out six batters.
