PBR Spotlight Game: Mason at Hamilton

By Trace Fowler

Mason Capitalizes on Hamilton Mistakes.

HAMILTON- Walks and errors will haunt, and thats just what occurred Wednesday night at Stang Field for the Big Blue of Hamilton.

Hamilton committed six official errors, allowing Mason to score nine times in the third, three in the fourth, and three more in the fifth, turning the GMC contest into a route.

Mason’s senior Seth Bowles and Hamilton’s sophomore Jake Zeek seemed to be a pair headed for the proverbial pitchers duel. Bowles nor Zeek have overpowering stuff and relied on pitch location along with defense to be effective.

Bowles was brilliant as he kept Big Blue hitters off balance with his effective breaking ball and a complimentary fastball in which he located very well. The Comet starter would hold Hamilton scoreless through his five innings of work. Zeek, had a much different story.

Mason’s senior Marcus Otte began the merry-go-round with his base hit up the middle in which was misplayed by Hamilton’s centerfielder allowing two runs to score. Two walks sandwiched by a base hit by Drew Johnson loaded the bases. Zeek then induced what seemed to be a possible double play ground ball but an infield error and a dropped pop up later and Mason had extended their lead to six. Zeek was then relieved by Jim Reed after a frustrating two innings of work.

The Comets would eventually pound out 13 hits and remain flawless in the field during their 16-0 victory over the Big Blue. The Comets line-up is arguably the strongest from top to bottom in the GMC and if anything is for sure, Mason will take advantage of extra outs.

Mason is tied atop the GMC with a (6-0) record, (8-2) overall. While Hamilton slips to (2-4) in league play, (2-4) Overall. Mason will travel to LaSalle Saturday at 11:00am. Hamilton will play Centerville along with Loveland in a round robin affair starting at 1:00pm.
