TOP 2013 PROSPECTS FROM THE CINCINNATI OPEN ID

  1. Brad Burkhart, OF/RHP, La Salle HS
    Good two-way player. Athletic body and actions. Solid raw skills. Ran 6.64 60 yard dash (on artificial surface) along with above average arm strength with carry (85 mph). Shows balanced hitting stance and bat speed into zone with some pop potential. Needs to improve lower half torque and finish. On the bump, has moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Fastball shows occasional arm side run, ranging 84-86 mph. Also has hard slurvy type breaking ball (76-77 mph) with some depth. Changeup ranges 72-74 mph.
  2. Joe Ramstetter, RHP, Elder HS
    Big athletic body with physical projection. Moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 arm slot. Delivery showed improved balance (more deliberate) than in the past. Fastball ranged 88-90 mph with some late movement. Two types of breaking balls: a harder slurvy type with two plane bite (75-77 mph) and lesser feel on slower one (67-68 mph). Showed some feel of change up (75-76 mph).
  3. Jay Eilerman, OF, Minster HS
    Shows athleticism with some physical projection. Good raw skills. Ran 7.03 60 yard dash with solid arm strength (81 mph) with carry. Good balanced hitting stance. Squares bat on ball very well with some lower body torque and finish.
  4. Austin Young, RHP, Beavercreek HS
    Young arm who offers projectabilty with 4 pitches. Delivery shows some balance with moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Gets extension. Fastball ranges 81-84 with some late life in zone. Off speed includes a 71-72 mph curveball with some tilt; some late bite action on 77 mph slider. Shows arm action and some arm side run on 72-73 mph changeup. 
  5. Austin Collins, OF/RHP, Cooper (KY), Class of 2013
    Registered a 7.31 60-yard dash. In the field, he shows long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 82 mph from the outfield with carry on his throws. Shows athletic actions in the field. At the plate, he starts with a tall, upright stance. Uses a leg kick trigger for his load. Strong prospect that shows good use of his lower half and quick bat speed. Overall, shows some power in his bat. On the mound, the right-hander throws through a high ¾ arm slot and his delivery requires some effort. Fastball sits 81-83 mph. Curveball is 68-71 mph with hard 11/5 bite. He slows down his arm speed when throwing a 71-76 mph changeup. He also shows a 68 mph knuckleball with some tumble. 
  6. Matthew Stewart, OF/1B, Mariemont, Class of 2013
    Registered a 7.00 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through an over the top slot. Reached a top velocity of 81 mph from the outfield. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a wide base and a slight crouch. He uses a short stride and explosive lower half. Shows above average bat speed with slight uphill path to the ball. Overall good rhythm to his swing.
  7. Logan Roberts, IF, McNicholas, Class of 2013
    Athletic prospect that registered a 7.26 60-yard dash. In the field, he shows soft hands and quick actions. Consistently plays through the ball and throws well from all angles. Reaches top velocity of 75 mph across the infield. At the plate, the right-handed hitter shows a short, compact swing with a smooth, easy load. Little wasted movement in his swing. Rotational type hitter with line drive production.

 

TOP UNDERCLASS PROSPECTS FROM THE CINCINNATI OPEN ID 

  1. Hunter Dunn, RHP/IF, Cooper HS (KY), Class of 2014
    Good, lanky body with live arm. Moderate to quick arm from 3/4 to low 3/4 arm slot. Gets extensions. Needs to improve lower half finish. Fastball shows life in zone, ranging 83-86 mph. Shows feel for off speed; curveball displays some tilt (67-68 mph) and changeup is thrown with good arm action (73-74 mph). Defenisvely, shows good infield skills with solid arm strength (80 mph). Swing is tad long on a flat plane. Shows rotational mechanics. Overall, strong prospect with some power in his bat.
  2. Parker Chalmers, IF, Wyoming, Class of 2015
    Young, undersized middle infield prospect that is a definite follow as he matures. Shows exceptional athleticism with quick twitch actions. Registered a 6.76 60-yard dash. Shows soft hands and quick actions in the field. Reached a top velocity of 74 mph across the infield. At the plate, the left-handed hitter shows a balanced, athletic setup. Shows quick bat speed into the zone with line drive, pull tendencies in his swing. Stride gets a tad long at times, which could cause some timing issues. Overall, fluid rhythm and ideal top of the order bat.
  3. Phillip Anderson, IF, La Salle, Class of 2015       
    Player who shows good baseball sense for his young age. Good athletic body who is projectable in all areas. Ran 7.2 60 yard dash with solid strength from all angles. Shows fluid feet and quick hands in the field; just needs to enhance his body balance. Offensively, he uses an upright hitting stance. Gets barrel in zone squarely on ball with line drive bat. Definite follow. 
  4. Chase Murray, C/3B, CHCA, Class of 2016
    Young player who shows good baseball sense and should improve game further with experience and physical maturity. Good defensive actions behind the dish and at third. Good hands and feet with playable arm (2.05-2.09 pop time). Upright hitting stance. Uses chest level trigger. Gets bat into zone well with long finish and controlled upper cut. 
  5. Cameron Murray, IF, CHCA, Class of 2015
    Smallish body with very good baseball skills. Shows excellent infield skills; balance, feet and hands with arm strength from all angles. Upright hitting stance. Gets bat into zone well with controlled upper cut swing. Needs to gain physical strength. 
  6. Jacob Collinsworth, OF, Oak Hills HS, Class of 2014
    Athletic projectable body. Solid outfield skills with above average arm strength (79 mph), Runs 7.26 60 yard dash. Good balance as a hitter. Shows bat speed that is quick into the hitting zone with long finish. Currently shows line drive power that could develop some power as he matures. 
  7. Sam Hauer, C/3B, Elder, Class of 2015
    Registered a 7.96 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 72 mph. Pop times registered between 2.1-2.18. Shows good, quick actions. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Displays rotational mechanics in his swing. Uses short stride with good use of his lower half. Takes slightly uphill path to the ball with line drive production. Good bat and interesting follow as he matures.

 

BEST OF THE REST 

Alex Murphy, 3B/1B, Vandalia Butler, Class of 2015
Registered a 7.74 60-yard dash. Likely projects as a first baseman. Uses short arm action through over the top arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 72 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses a short stride with an explosive lower half. Shows quick bat speed with a slight uphill path to the ball. Shows big time pop and a potential middle of the order bat at the next level.

Anton Dean, IF, Aiken HS, Class of 2013
Athletic body with lots of physical projection. Skills currently raw but also intriguing. Ran 7.04 60 yard dash with arm strength that shows some carry. Has some balance in stance. Makes contact but swing plane is flat. 

Austin Bryant, C, Fairfield, Class of 2013
Registered 7.78 60-yard dash. Solid, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Pop times between 2.00-2.05 with a top velocity of 72 mph from the crouch. Uses slightly open stance with a short stride. Shows quickness in his bat speed with line drive production. 

Brian Guck, 3B/C, Elder, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.53 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 68 mph with pop times between 2.19-2.24. Tends to get tall early out of the crouch. In the infield, he uses short arm action through a ¾ arm slot while reaching a top velocity of 69 mph. Needs to improve fluidity of footwork. At the plate, he starts with a wide crouch. Shows inside/out tendencies to his swing. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. 

Cajay Henson, OF/RHP, Oak Hills, Class of 2014
Short, solid prospect that registered a 7.59 60-yard dash. Uses long, stiff arm action in the field to reach a top velocity of 78 mph. Needs to consistently play through the ball. At the plate, shows rotational mechanics. Produces inside/out swing with opposite field tendencies. Shows slight uphill path to the ball. On the mound, shows average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sits 71-73 mph; curveball is 62-63 mph with 11/5 break; and changeup at 62 mph with some fade. 

Cam Washington, OF, Western Hills, Class of 2013
Athletic outfield prospect that registered a 6.86 60-yard dash. Shows long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot while reaching a top velocity of 73 mph. Left-handed bat that still needs to enhance mechanics to maximize his athletic abilities. Slappy, contact hitter at this stage.

Christopher Reyes, IF, Pickerington Central, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.27 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Shows a top velocity of 73 mph across the infield. Projects as second base or third base type. Needs to improve fluidity of actions. At the plate, he starts in a slight crouch. Uses a short stride and short path to the ball. Will enhance swing with more use of his lower half.

Cody Leach, P/OF, Cincinnati Christian, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.02 60-yard dash. Uses long arm action through a ¾ arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 78 mph, but needs to quicken his exchange. At the plate, he shows potential with above average bat speed, but his swing tends to get long during his load. Will increase power with more use of his lower half. On the mound, his fastball is 75-77 mph with some cut. His cureball is 67 mph and his changeup is 64 mph. 

Cody Schuerman, C/OF/P, Lima Bath, Class of 2013
Registered a 7.38 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he registered pop times ranging between 2.00-2.07 with a top velocity of 74 mph. At the plate, he starts with an open stance in a crouch. Starts with high hand trigger for his load. Tends to bar his arm in his load. Displays average bat speed. On the mound, he throws from a high ¾ arm slot with maximum effort to his delivery. Fastball sits 75-77 mph. Curveball is 64-67 mph but tends to be erratic. Changeup is 56-57 mph but lacks overall command. 

Cole Ferguson, 2B/OF, Mars Hill, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.18 60-yard dash. Short, athletic build. Looks the part. In the field, he shows fluid actions with soft hands and fluid footwork. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 69 mph across the infield. At the plate, he shows rotational mechanics. Starts in a slight crouch and uses a short stride. Has a tendency to get flat in his load and drop the barrel. Shows confidence. Line drive type production.

Dailyn Stevenson, IF, Western Hills HS, Class of 2013
Registered a 6.78 60-yard dash. Likely a second base type at the next level. Uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 71 mph across the infield. Needs to play through the baseball. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Shows good raw skills with above average bat speed. Takes slightly uphill path to the ball. 

D’Angel Boynton, 2B, Withrow, Class of 2013
Short, athletic prospect. Registered a 7.26 60-yard dash. Shows some athletic actions in the field, but lacks fluidity. Needs to improve footwork. Reached top velocity of 63 mph. At the plate, he shows a short stride with a flat path to the ball. Tendency to lunge and drift on to front side.

Deshanna Oates, OF, Withrow HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.15 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph. Shows good hands and plays through the baseball. At the plate, he uses a short stride and decent use of his lower half. Shows inside/out tendencies in his swing. Displays above average bat speed.

Drew Paolercio, C, Elder HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.52 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 73 mph with pop times between 2.32-2.39. Needs to continue improve mechanics and transfer. Transfer tends to get long. Throws tend to be uphill. At the plate, he shows some balance in his swing. Uses a leg kick and high hand trigger. Shows pull tendencies in his swing with line drive production.

Eduardo Rodriguez, LHP, Western Hills, Class of 2014
Thick, solid frame. Southpaw thorws through low ¾ arm slot with long arm action. Delivery requires some effort. Fastball sits 72-75 mph. Curveball shows gradual 2/8 break at 56 mph. His changeup sits at 66-67 mph with some arm side fade.

Eric Albers, IF, Archbishop Alter HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.49 60-yard dash. Throws through a low ¾ arm slot. Tends to field the ball deep. Needs to improve footwork and path to the ball. Reaches top velocity of 66 mph. The left-handed hitter starts with a tall, upright stance. Shows inside/out tendencies in his swing with opposite field production.

Eric Hammerle, C/OF, Ross HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.15 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 72 mph with pop times between 2.09-2.11. Uses a wide stance and transfer can get long at times. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance and uses a short stride. Shows above average bat speed. Doesn’t always achieve extension in his swing. Overall, shows potential at the plate.

Big, solid prospect. Registered a 7.74 60-yard dash. Decent actions around the bag. Needs to improve glovework. Reached top velocity of 73 mph. Starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a heavy load with a lot of movement. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Shows some pop in his bat.

Jared Blank, IF, Cooper, Class of 2013
Short, solid build and frame. Registered a 7.23 60-yard dash. In the field, he shows long arm action through a ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 80 mph. Shows average hands and footwork. Likely projects as second baseman or third baseman. At the plate, he starts with a tall, upright stance. Tends to bar his arm in his load. Shows good use of his lower half and some pop in his bat.

Jonathon Manning, RHP/3B, Preble Shawnee HS, Class of 2013
Registered a 8.35 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through low ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 72 mph across the infield. Limited range likely puts him at first base at the next level. At the plate, he uses a short stride. Tends to drop the barrel in his load. Still, shows some bat speed with pull tendencies and line drive production. Registered a 7.27 60-yard dash. Shows strength and raw skills. Reaches top velocity of 74 mph with pop times between 2.00-2.19. Starts with a wide base and shows a long transfer that could improve. Offensively, he shows raw skills and potential. Tends to bar his arm in his load, which creates pull tendencies in his swing.

Kyle Koopenhoefer, RHP/3B, Elder, Class of 2014
Tall, lanky build. Registered a 7.97 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot in the field to reach a top velocity of 73 mph. At the plate, he hits from both sides. From the left side, he tends to be a slappy, contact type hitter. Doesn’t show much power. From the right side, he shows more power with better torque and use of his lower half. On the mound, he throws through a high ¾ arm slot with loose, easy arm action. Shows smooth rhythm to his delivery. Fastball sits 78-81 mph. Curveball is 65-68 mph with good depth. Currently, lacks command of his changeup, which sits 65-66 mph.

Lucas Meyer, C/OF, Wilmington, Class of 2013
Registered a 8.15 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 64 mph with pop times between 2.39-2.46. Needs to improve glove to hand exchange. At the plate, he uses a short stride. Still can improve use of lower half. Shows inside/out tendencies in his swing. Path to the ball tends to be flat.

Luke Glischinski, OF/RHP, Kings, Class of 2014
Possess lanky, athletic frame. Registered a 7.18 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 80 mph from the outfield. Shows quick footwork and attacks the ball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in a crouch. Shows average bat speed and decent use of his lower half. Takes slightly uphill path to the ball. Also pitches, but threw too close to the event.

Malik Bland, C, Withrow HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.16 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Registered 2.06-2.17 pop times and 68 mph from the crouch. At the plate, he uses a wide stance. Shows some balance. Triggers his swing with a toe tap. Shows above average bat speed with some pop in his swing.

Matthew Fowler, LHP, Kings, Class of 2014
Lanky southpaw with some potential on the mound. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Delivery requires some effort. Fastball sits 77-81 mph with some arm side run. Shows good command throws for strikes. His curveball sits at 60 mph with gradual 1/7 break. Shows good overall depth. His changeup velocity ranges between 68-70 mph. 

Michael Barnabei, OF/LHP, Pickerington Central, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.12 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot while reaching a top velocity of 76 mph. Shows quick footwork and transfer. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride with a high hand trigger. His swing will be aided by simplifying his load. Takes short, slightly uphill path to the ball. On the mound, the southpaw requires some effort to his delivery. His fastball sits 76-78 mph with some run. His curveball is 57-60 mph, but he tends to slow down his arm action. His changeup is his best off-speed pitch. It sits 60-61 mph and shows good fade.

Muhammad Groomes, OF, Withrow, Class of 2014
Good body with athleticism. Shows good potential with bat. Has balance in swing with quick hands into zone. Squares barrel well with finish. Has power potential. Ran 7.24 60 yard dash. Has good outfield skills with arm strength (78 mph) that shows some carry. Still a tad raw but very interesting prospect.

Patrick Birrer, C/OF, Moeller HS, Class of 2014
Shows potential as a player with versatility. Ran 7.03 60 yard dash with good arm strength. Shows potential as a catcher with 2.24-2.4 times and 74 mph velocity from the crouch. Good hand load with bat, quick into zone with long finish.

Peter Stanifer, RHP, St. Xavier HS, Class of 2013
Big, solid right-handed pitcher. Shows average arm speed through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Fastball sits between 78-80 mph. His curveball sits 67-68 mph with 11/5 breaking action, but lacks depth. His changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed and shows some fade at 71 mph. 

Ross Adolph, OF/RHP, Van Buren HS, Class of 2015
Registered a 7.11 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 70 mph. Needs to improve fluidity of footwork and quickness of exchange. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts with slightly open stance and short stride. Achieves good torque and use of his lower half. Takes slight uphill path to the ball will pull tendencies and line drive production. 

Scott Baker, C/RHP, Bloom Carroll HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.21 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reaches a top velocity of 70 mph with pop times between 2.10-2.32. Times will improve as transfer quickens. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Tends to bar his arm during his load. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. On the mound, he comes through a high ¾ arm slot. His delivery requires some effort and his back arm action tends to get a little stiff. His fastball sits 77-78 mph. His curveball is 60-61 mph with some depth, and his changeup is 68-69 mph with some fade. 

Sean Hetrick, LHP, Oak Hills HS, Class of 2014
Skinny, lanky southpaw that throws from a low ¾ arm slot. Arm action tends to be a bit slingy. His fastball sits 71-72 mph. His curveball stays between 66-67 mph with tight 1/7 spin, but doesn’t show much depth. His changeup is 62-65 mph with arm side run, but he tends to slow down his arm action.

Terrell Bess, OF, Withrow HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.57 60-yard dash. Uses long arm action through a ¾ arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 73 mph. At the plate, he hits from both side. From the right side, he tends to bar his arm in his load, which causes some length to his swing. Shows inside/out tendencies. From the left side, he tends to collapse the backside. Displays some potential from the left side, but slappy, contact type.

Tyler Harley, C, St. Xavier HS, Class of 2014
Registered a 7.20 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reaches a top velocity of 69 mph. Pop times range between 2.29-2.34, but could improve with better glove to hand transfer. At the plate, he starts with a tall, upright stance and his hands are high. Uses a short stride with quick bat speed. Line drive type production with some pop. Displays fluid rhythm to his swing.
