Q and A with 2013 Case Western Reserve Commit: Connor Faix (St. Edwards HS)

Connor Faix, RHP/C, St. Edwards HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Case Western Reserve?

Faix: I chose Case Western Reserve first for the excellent academic opportunities. Secondly, I feel very comfortable with Coach Englander and Coach Callahan and really feel that they have their baseball program going in the right direction.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Faix: Dayton and Northwestern.

PBR:  Case Western is a well known for their academics, how much of a role did that play in your decision and how do you plan to balance the demands of academics with your time and effort on the playing field.

Faix: As I said before, the academics at Case is the primary reason for me wanting to go there. The coaching staff is well aware of the academic demands and they understand that it must come first. Also, the course load at Saint Edward has prepared me to handle the balance between school and baseball and what the priorities are.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Faix: I am pretty sure it was in the summer and I was invited to go to a camp there this past fall. From the very beginning, I felt that there was an open line of communication with the coaching staff and that made me feel really comfortable.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Faix: I will be going in as a pitcher and I hope to compete right away.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help their baseball program?

Faix: I feel my biggest strengths are my work ethic and competitiveness.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Faix: This coming summer I will be playing for the Midwest Pelicans. Last summer I played for the Ohio Longhorns. One of my best memories was catching at the University of Louisville.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Faix: I think there are a lot of really good hitters in Ohio right now so picking one would be really tough. I do know that a lot of those guys will be playing at the next level.
