Q and A with 2015 Oakland Commit: Cole Gibson (Gahanna Lincoln HS)

Cole Gibson, RHP, Gahanna Lincoln HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Oakland?

Gibson: I chose Oakland after visiting there mainly due to the financial package that was put in front of me along with the Coach Musachio and his willingness to make me a better baseball player.

PBR: You have really jumped onto the recruiting scene this spring. What do you feel is the biggest reason for all of the sudden interest from coaches?

Gibson: I feel that playing for my summer coach, Brian Hull and my Ohio Warhawks team, has really helped to make college coaching contacts for me and really get me the exposure I need.  I also feel that attending a PBR Event was a big contributor along with pitching for a great school like Gahanna in the Spring.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Gibson: I had visited and talked with Toledo and really liked them a lot.

PBR: Where did coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Gibson: Coach Musachio saw me several times this past summer but the first time was at the Phoenix Wood Bat Tournament in Worthington.  My summer coach got me hooked up with Coach and we began to talk.  Once I visited I knew it was the place for me.

PBR: You are only a Junior, why did you decide to make your decision so early? Are you finished with the recruiting process?

Gibson: Again, after visiting Oakland and getting an incredible scholarship package put in front of me along with a great coach….I knew it was the place I wanted to go.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Gibson: Coach Musachio told me that he expects me to come in and pitch as a Freshmen and get quality innings.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Gibson: I really didn’t have any expectations regarding the recruiting process.  My summer coach for the Ohio Warhawks has really prepped me and the others regarding how it works or can work and it has made it much easier for me.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Gibson: 2 people have had huge impacts on me.  One has been former Gahanna coach and my current summer coach, Brian Hull.  He has spent numerous hours with me to help me.  My other one is former Gahanna pitcher and current Texas Rangers Organization pitcher, Phil Klein.  I’m very lucky to get to spend time with Phil in the off-season and help him with his long toss and throwing program.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?

Gibson: I play for the Ohio Warhawks in the summer.  My most memorable moment was this past summer when I came out and through a complete game 2 hitter against a really good team and did it in 72 pitches.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Gibson: This may sound weird but the toughest hitter that I have faced is Evan White, my Gahanna teammate, during practice.  I’m glad he’s on my team!
