Recruiting News from Around Ohio



As signing day approaches, we are see a rash of commitments from across the state and underclassmen beginning to make early commitments.

Galia Academy 2013 RHP Justin Bailey committed to Tiffin. Bailey, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect out of Southeastern Ohio, shows two way potential with a low to mid 80’s fastball and a 70-72 mph curveball.

Gahanna Lincoln 2013 catcher Dakota Cararo committed to Adrian College in Michigan, Cararo, who has been a steady presence behind the plate Gahanna Lincoln, shows strong catch and receive skills. His left-handed bat has some surprising power.

Columbus Bishop Watterson 2013 LHP Greg Jacknewitz commited to Xavier. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound southpaw shows some potential on the mound with a low 80’s fastball. He continues the pipeline of Watterson alumni headed to Xavier, preceded by Seth Willoughby (2012 Rockies draft pick) and Brian Bruening.

Lakota West 2014 outfielder Blaine Griffiths committed to Xavier. Griffiths, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound switch hitting prospect, shows advanced skills at the plate. 

Amherst HS 2013 RHP Shawn Reid committed to Lake Erie College. Reid, who showed a mid to high 80’s fastball, is a bit undersized, but has good stuff on the mound. He recently under Tommy John surgery.

Cincinnati Elder 2013 RHP Nick Beard committed to Northern Kentucky. Beard, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect, flashes a low to mid 80’s fastball with a 67-69 curveball.

Cincinnati Moeller 2014 infielder Riley Mahan committed to the University of Kentucky. Mahan, a big time left-handed bat, was one of the most coveted prospects in the Midwest.

Mason 2013 RHP Seth Bowles committed to Ohio Dominican. Bowles has been a steady presence in a talented Mason pitching staff after moving from California over a year ago.
