LEBANON - The 2020 year started off with a bang when it came to recruitment for Zach Weber.

Visits to Ashland, Bowling Green, Cincinnati and Wright State along with interest from Charleston, Ohio U and Toledo had the top-rated uncommitted junior right-hander in the state looking forward to more college trips before Covid-19 brought a temporary end to the course of action being undertaken.

“It’s been eye-opening to me,” the Lebanon High School 2021 said of his school visits. “I’ve been late to start the recruiting process, but I’ve liked what I’ve seen in the time I’ve been at it. Since being shut down I’m keeping conversation open and talking to every coach until I get back on the field.”

The hard-throwing right-hander is making up for the belated beginning to recruitment.

“I was just playing summer ball until the PBR All-State event opened up doors,” the third-ranked uncommitted player in Ohio’s junior class explained in reference to the February Preseason All-State Upperclass showcase in February. “It showed where I stack up and made me feel good. A lot of coaches, all of them that I’ve talked to, first talked to me after that event and the Bo Jackson Scout Day (two weeks later).”

The 6-1 205-pounder gave quite a show hitting 89 on the gun at the Preseason event to go along with 95 exit velo, 91 outfield velo and a 7.11 clocking in the 60.

“I’ve made a big jump in my game,” Weber pointed out. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the weight room. I’ve been on a pitching program and I’ve also worked on my speed.”

The plans for now are to pursue being a two-way player at the next level.

“I’ve been looking at two-way,” Weber noted. “I feel I can make an impact with more speed and with pitching by gaining more velocity, control and command of the zone. I like playing every day. Coming off pitching I can DH, I’m comfortable with that, but I’ll do whatever a college wants me to do.”

It is what Weber has shown on the mound that stands out in the eyes of Jordan Chiero.
