Rematch between No. 14 Elder and No. 8 Moeller suspended in the 7th

By Trace Fowler

SYCAMORE- Shuler Park was host for a couple battles, one being for the top spot in the GCL south. The other, and more importantly breast cancer.

Elder and Moeller welcomed the Pink Ribbon Girls along with numerous opportunities to support a great cause. More information can be found at www.pinkribbongirls.org

In the first, Elder would strand the bases loaded but picked up a run off a sacrifice fly by Dewey Freidel off Moeller left handed John Tanner. Mitchell Asman was in charge of slowing down the Crusader offense but had little to no avail.

Unsigned senior Ryan LeFeavers would begin the inning with a lead off single, following by a stolen base. LeFeavers would then score on back to back ground balls. Sophomore Zach Shannon (OSU recruit) would give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead with a towering solo home run over the centerfield fence.

Moeller would add a run in the second, but major damage was done in the third. Rain started to become more prevalent and so did Moeller's bats. After an infield hit and a HBP, LeFeavers would lace a line drive which skipped all the way to the wall allowing LeFeavers triple to plate two. Junior Spencer Iacavone would hit a home run of his own, giving Moeller a demanding 6-1 lead.

Junior Joe Ramstetter did a masterful job in relieving, giving Elder a chance to make a comeback, and in the 6th, it's just what they did. The rain once again seemed to be playing a role, and to the Panthers credit, they took advantage of command issues on the mound.

After two walks and a hit, junior Jimmy White would double, cutting the lead to two. An error and a wild pitch later, the score was even at 6 a piece. Zach Williams (Bellarmine recruit) would settle down and escape any more Panther threats.

Ramstetter would continue his dominance and would pitch another scoreless sixth. However lightening would become apparent and left the game suspended in the top of inning seven. The game stands 6-6, and the right for the top spot in the GCL South will have to wait, at least another day.

Moeller will battle St. Xavier today at 5:00 pm at Schuler Park. Elder will host LaSalle on Friday, first pitch at 4:30
