Mason right-handed pitcher Andrew McDonald took his preparations seriously heading into the Super 60.

“In the weeks leading up to the event, I was focused on improving my mechanics and locating my off-speed pitches,” he said.

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Virginia Tech recruit looked the part amongst his peers.

“If I had to describe the atmosphere, I would say it was ‘electric’. The players were eager and excited to show what they had and why they were invited to the Super 60,” he said.

Equipped with broad shoulders and a full goatee, McDonald stepped up to the mound and didn’t disappoint.

Throwing from a low ¾ to ¾ arm slot, the big righty generated an 87-90 mph fastball with some run to it.

He complemented his fastball with a 75-78 mph breaking ball and an 80-84 mph changeup.

“I felt real good about my performance. I know I did not reach my top velocity on my fastball, but that wasn't my main objective,” he explained.

He continued, “I wanted to show good command of my pitches and consistent mechanics. I feel I accomplished that.”

It was McDonald’s first time at the Super 60, and he has no regrets.

“If any rising junior were to ask me about the Super 60, I would say that it's a ‘must attend.’”
