Scouting Report

8/02/17

At 14 years old Wainwright is almost a full calendar year younger than most 2020s. The No. 1 ranked player in the class already has an impressive frame but is still far from his ceiling athletically. Looks comfortable and confident in the outfield. Moves with fluidity and plays through the baseball well. Arm is an above average tools for his class. At the plate he showed a rhythmic swing with an all fields approach. Line drive type guy who should grow into a regular power threat. Has the potential to grow into a 5-tool guy.

The No.1 ranked prospect in the 2020 class lived up to his billing at the event. A very physically impressive prospect at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds and is still growing into his frame. Has the look of a potential 5-fool prospect down the road as arm strength comes along. A powerful athlete with fluidity to both sides of his game. Looked at home in center-field, showing feel for the position. At the plate he is mechanically efficient and his impressive natural tools show in his swing.

The Ohio State recruit, created some buzz with the scouts after turning in his best performance to date. He is an impressively built prospect who undoubtedly has more physical maturing to do - considering he is just 15 years old. The future Buckeye has the skillet set to play centerfield at the next level as he displays fluidity in his actions and advanced ball skills. His arm strength continues to improve, recording his top velocity to date at 85 mph. In the box, he looks athletic with a fluid, line drive swing that plays to both gaps.

Exit Velocity: 97

Wainwright has been as impressive as any prospect we’ve come across this winter. The outfielder has advanced bat speed and approach at the plate. Stays very fluid throughout his loading sequence and unlocks properly. Drove balls with authority in batting practice, producing consistent backspin. Also showed solid knowledge of the strike zone and the ability to lay off pitches just out of the zone. Recorded an impressive, 95 mph exit velocity. Athleticism is apparent through his actions in the outfield. Approaches ball in controlled, aggressive manner. Shows some quickness to his transfer with long arm action. Above average arm strength for his age.
