It’s hard to go unnoticed as a player in a program like Moeller HS and Mahan made his impression as the starting third baseman for a state championship team when he was a sophomore. He was lanky then and has grown into his projectable, 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame, which still has room for added strength. He plays shortstop now and has seen time in the outfield, but likely projects best at the hot corner. He’s a solid runner with a strong arm. At the plate, he has a quiet confidence, using a long stride and smooth load to generate pull-side power with a short, uphill path to the ball. He also possesses good instincts.
