UC Commitment Keeps Segal Close To Home

Zach Segal RHP / Loveland, OH / 2019

CINCINNATI - Less than a year ago the recruiting process was very discouraging for Zach Segal. But that all changed, thanks in a big way to the Top Prospect Games.

“I was playing in Fort Myers in the fall and didn’t have anybody reach out to me,” explained the Loveland senior. “That was an eye opener. So I worked even harder in the offseason and got my velo to jump.”

Schools like Cincinnati and UNC Charlotte took notice.

“I was just one of those later guys getting looks,” the 111th-rated player in the state’s 2019 class said. “I just started talking to schools in the summer. Some reached out after the Top Prospect Games, including Cincinnati.”

UC not only reached out, but offered a scholarship and the right-handed pitcher accepted.

“I got some D-II interest but it all took off after the Top Prospect Games,” Segal pointed out. “It was really fun to be with the best players in Ohio and you have to live up to that and I hit 87. That helped get my name out there.”

Segal admitted having a chip on his shoulder.
