Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Billy Salem (Mentor Lake Catholic)



Billy Salem, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound infield prospect from Mentor Lake Catholic, is one of the top unsigned seniors in the Class of 2012.


Salem, who hits from the left side, uses a wide base and a quick, compact swing. He sees the ball deep into the zone and shows the ability to hit to all fields. He shows consistent 7.1 speed in the 60-yard dash and has been clocked as low as 6.9 seconds.


In the field, he shows the versatility to play all infield positions. He uses quick foot-work and fluid actions as he attacks the baseball.  He uses a high ¾ arm slot and shows above average arm strength across the infield.


Currently, Salem is weighing his potential college destinations, which includes Mercyhurst, Heidelberg, Wooster, Washington and Jefferson, Ohio Wesleyan, and Mount Union.


As he considers the different factors involving in his decision, Salem says the most important parts are “comfort with the school and coaching staff.”


Last spring, he hit .407 with 32 RBI for Mentor Lake Catholic, who were regional finalist.


In the summer, he plays for the Player’s i Baseball Academy.


He has a 3.2 GPA along with a 25 ACT and a 1660 SAT.
