The First Class of 2013 Rankings

The initial Class of 2013 rankings are set. There is a long way to go between now and next September, so stay tuned to see who rises and falls through the coming months.

Zach Farmer, a left-handed pitcher from Piketon High School in Southeastern Ohio, sits a top the rankings. He is widely regarded as one of the top 2013 left-handed pitcher’s nationwide.

Besides Farmer, Ohio has plenty of other intriguing pitching prospects. Robert Zeigler, a 6-foot-3, 205 pitcher from Defiance High School, looks to follow in a long line of talented pitchers from Northwest Ohio. He is joined by fellow right-handed prospects Jordan Grosjean (Oregon Clay), Griffin Weir (Amherst Steele), and Cory Wilder (Lima Shawnee) as members of the Top 10.

Unlike 2012, this class is full of talented left-handed pitching prospects, including Andrew Rossman (North Royalton), two way prospect Tom Stoffel (Northmont), Nick Bertram (Centerville), Eric Lauer (Midview), and Jim Orwick (Findlay).

The top outfield prospects include Andrew Benintendi of Maderia and Matt Smith of Fredericktown with several other players looking to overtake them.

In the infield, Ryan Arrington of Cincinnati Christian projects as the top corner guy, and Connor McVey of Mason projects as the top middle infielder with Austin Rieman not too far behind.

The catching crop is deeper than 2012 with several standouts in and out of the Top 25, including Cassidy Brown (Walsh Jesuit), Cameron Whitehead (Moeller), and Jacob Carpenter (Kenston). 

*RHP Carlos Pena of Columbus West High School is not being included in the 2013 rankings as he will be completing his GED and enrolling in a junior college this winter.
