2020 Ontario Uncommitted Open - Quick Hits

Julio Vasquez C / 3B / St. Benedict's, ON / 2021

Report: Vasquez, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound catcher, was the top performer at the event. It’s a strong, durable body that profiles well behind the plate where he’s quiet, with subtle glove actions. The catch & throw skills were on display as he worked with clean glove-to-hand transfers, accurate footwork while getting throws off up to 78 with a 1.94-2.10 pop-time. He’s a catcher at the next level. At the plate, his strength translated to raw power in BP as the ball jumped off bat. He produced quality contact (90 EV) and impacted the baseball at an ideal angle (14° AA) to optimize his power. Vasquez is a power-hitting catcher who will be a contributor to a school at the next level.

Brendan Colley 2B / 3B / Markville, ON / 2021

Report: Colley, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound infielder, put together a solid showing at the Uncommitted Open. In the infield, the actions work, he moves comfortably laterally, and he profiles as a guy who can slot in at different positions. He was up to 83 across as well. At the plate, it’s a very rotational swing (19 g RA), while he showed the ability to get on plane early (93° EC) and stay on plane through the zone. He worked inside the baseball and made solid line-drive contact, and in recent league games, he’s hit for some power. Colley is a 7.13 runner as well.

Tyler Coakley RHP / Dr. Frank J Hayden, ON / 2021

Report: Coakley, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-hander, had the best pen of the day. He’s a physical pitcher with broad-shoulders who will continue to add strength and improve. Coakley sat 84-86, T88 working from a high ¾ slot with a clean arm circle. He located to both sides and was all around the strike zone. He buried a pair of curveballs with 11/5 shape and break, the pitch has the capability of getting both handed hitters out. It was a very polished pen from Coakley, and he’s an arm that schools should get on soon.

Charlie Iriotakis OF / RHP / St. Michael's, ON / 2021

Report: At 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, Iriotakis is a long & lean outfielder with athleticism who has made strides in his game. At the plate, he works with an upswing (12° AA) with bat speed (71.2), driving balls to the right-center gap (4.36 PW). With physical maturity, the frame and swing suggest there’s more power in there. On this day, he also ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and worked up to 80 in the outfield. There’s a lot to like about Iriotakis, and the 2021 grad will provide value for a school at the next level.

Sebastian Khan RHP / SS / David Suzuki, ON / 2021

Report: Khan, a 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander, was one of the better arms last Tuesday. He works with a slight arm stab outback, releasing from a high ¾ slot, landing in-line towards the plate. Khan sat in the mid-’80s, maxing out at 87. He spun a couple of curveballs with downward break and depth that plays well off of his fastball. He profiles best as a reliever where his two-pitch combination and velo play up.
