RECENT COMMITMENTS

Tyler Hinrikus 3B / SS / Resurrection Catholic, ON / 2020

School: Ball State

Report: Hinrikus, a Great Lake Canadians third baseman, has committed to Ball State University for the 2020 season. At 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, he fits the profile for third and has the bat for the position. From the right side, Hinrikus shows the ability to use his hands and stay inside the baseball, letting his raw strength take over. The actions are clean in the infield, his hands work to the backhand, and he’s up to 85 mph across the diamond. He is a 6.93 runner and has enough athleticism to play in the outfield if needed. He should be a solid contributor at the next level in the Mid-American Conference.

Brandon Deans RHP / OF / Our Lady of Mount Carmel, ON / 2019

School: Oakland

Report: The tall 6-foot-4, 202-pound right-hander is off the board and heading to Oakland University. Deans, an Ontario Blue Jays product, has shown the ability to sit in the high 80’s with his fastball while using a slurve-like breaking ball off of it. Using his size to his advantage, Deans gets on top and throws downhill. He’s physically matured and has a good understanding of how his body works allowing him to control the zone. The development of his secondary offerings with be a huge factor to his success at the next level.

Sam Bent SS / OF / Mother Teresa, ON / 2019

School: Cayuga Community College

Report: An Ottawa Knights infielder, Bent is heading to Cayuga Community College for the 2019 fall. A left-handed hitter, it’s a mechanically sound approach with a slight-leg kick used as a timing mechanism while rotating his hips. Bent puts bat on ball and works line-to-line with a line-drive approach. He profiles as a corner position player in the outfield and infield as it’s not overly athletic, but his hands work, and he gets the ball out in the mid-70s.

Jamal Armstrong OF / RHP / Richview Collegiate, ON / 2019

School: St. Clair County CC

Report: An athletic outfielder for the Ontario Terriers, Armstrong has found a home, heading to St. Clair County CC in Michigan. Armstrong is a 7.15 runner who shows the ability to get behind the ball and throw it in the outfield. The arm works loose up to 89 mph allowing him to play multiple outfield positions. At the plate, the hands work well, with bat control and occasional ability to get into one and split the gaps. He can contribute on both ends making him a real good get for St. Clair County CC.
