FUTURE GAMES: 2021 Arms

In preparation for next week’s release of the PBR 2021 Overall rankings, On the Hunt takes a look at some of the pitchers that made a name for themselves at the PBR Future Games in August. Each of these pitchers impressed during their stints on the mound while competing against some of the top players in the country. Uncommitted now, college recruiters will likely be glued to their progression in hopes of having them join their programs in the future.

Payton Allen SS / RHP / Bentonville, AR / 2021

Athletic with a quick arm, Allen’s pitchability and competitiveness were on full display at the Future Games where he also showcased the potential to be a two-way player at the next level. The 6-foot, 165-pound right-hander attacked the zone with a 84-88 mph fastball that jumped out of his hand and bore down on hitters. He countered with a breaking ball at 72-75 with downward action that was thrown with fastball hand speed. His athletic, uptempo delivery was easily repeated, and all signs point to even more velocity coming as he continues to fill out, especially since he unleashed throws up to 92 mph from the outfield. His ability to aggressively attack hitters with the fastball, controlling it to both sides of the plate, currently stands out, and I would not be surprised if a sharp, swing and miss slider develops in the near future.
