Ontario Insider: Five Uncommitted Names You Need To Know

As we close in on the end of 2017, we take a look at 5 players who had strong summer’s and are currently uncommitted heading into the holidays. All of these guys are no doubters when it comes to moving on to the next level. Whether it be a 4 year or 2 year school, these 2018 grads all have tools and are trending in the right direction.

We take a look at two left-handers with 3 pitches and show maturity on the mound, along with pitchability. A catcher/first baseman who power from the right side, a right-hander who can eat up innings and make quick work of opposing hitters, and then an athletic outfielder with big time upside.

Jason Boulanger LHP / Jacob Hespeler, ON / 2018

Team: Great Lake Canadians
Who Is He: Boulanger, listed at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, is a left-hander with command of three pitches and a big breaking ball that shows depth and spin, with the ability to use as a put away pitch. Even at 5-foot-9, he creates good angles on his pitches, goes right after hitters and waste little time in the pitch count category. He threw the semi-final of his league play and was dominant the first two times through the lineup with his pitch count extremely low while piling up the strikeouts. The delivery shows regular effort, while the arm works and does the little things you look for in holding runners, understanding swings, changing speeds and so on. The velocity tops out at 84 and hovers in the 80-83 range, which should continue to creep as he matures and add strengths. If looking for LHP, Boulanger is someone you need to know. Boulanger is currently ranked 24th in the 2018 class and is the second ranked lefty of the group.
