Future Games Leads Pitre To Kentucky

REPENTIGNY, Quebec - The Future Games played a major role in Emilien Pitre finding a college 15 hours away from his home north of Montreal.

“The Future Games really helped me in my recruitment,” explained the Kentucky commit from Repentigny. “It made it possible for me to get seen and watched by a crazy amount of universities. I’d never seen that amount of scouts - ever.”

But there is more that the lightning-quick shortstop discovered at the PBR event in Georgia back in August.

“The Future Games also made me understand how many players are really good in the world,” noted the Académie Baseball Canada High School junior. “It made me see that if I want to be the best, I really need to continue to work hard.”

That is something that Pitre, who just turned 17 earlier this month, has been doing to improve his game over the past year.

“Last summer I was playing in a league where the best players from all over the province of Quebec were playing against each other,” Pitre reflected. “This summer I made a big jump and made the ABC Team which puts the best players from all over Quebec on one team.

“The one aspect of my game that really improved to help me make that team was my bat,” the left-handed swinging Pitre continued. “I really needed to work on it because it was my biggest weakness. So all winter I worked really hard on my swing and the work paid off because this summer I was one of the best hitters on my team.”

It was just part of his game that attracted Kentucky to Pitre, who was listed by Shooter Hunt as the 11th-best position player among the more than 500 players that participated at the Future Games.

“I started communicating with Kentucky the first day of the Future Games,” noted Pitre, who ran an impressive 6.64 in the 60 while showcasing an 87 infield velo at shortstop in addition to an exit velo of 89. “One week before the Future Games I playing in a PBR tournament at Lake Point, so they saw me play for a whole week before starting talking with me.”

The conversations went smoothly according to Pitre.
