By Chris Kemlo, Dylan Hefflinger & PBR Ontario Staff
Ontario Scouting Director / Editor in Chief

Every week we are going to take a look at some of the unsigned seniors still available in the 2017 class as we get closer to our first event of the year and players are starting to ramp up for spring trips to Florida and the start of their seasons. We take a look at what they have done previously and what we envision will come of them this spring and summer as the talent still available in Ontario is stronger than most states and provinces.

Ontario Insider: Unsigned Senior Blog (2017 Edition)

Week 6

Brian Mckenna, C, Etobicoke Rangers
Overview: Mckenna is a sturdy 6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher with current strength. Offensive threat with club team, shows power to all fields with bat speed, doesn’t get outside of approach, same time will not get cheated at the plate or give away at-bats. Solid defender, agility improving behind the dish, pitchers enjoy throwing to him, hands works and arm is improving. Bat will play at next level, perfect fit for junior college as he can handle duties behind the dish while providing offensive contribution at the plate.

Week 5

Jonathan Henry, RHP, Ontario Yankees
Overview: Henry is a big, strong physical right-hander at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds with a muscular frame from head to toe. The senior made an impressive showing at our first event in 2017 with a rise in his velocity as he sat 84-86 mph with his fastball that showed a downhill plane and lots of strikes. When he kept his fastball down in the zone, he would see late arm-side run. Henry also showed improved feel with his off-speed as both offerings had the makings of quality pitches while his breaking ball had late action with 10/4 shape and could turn into a slider as he continues to develop the pitch. Overall it was a strong showing for the right-hander, he has put in the work to change his body and improve on the mound as Henry has positioned himself to be an asset for the right college program. Expect to see a jump in the new 2017 rankings for Henry.
