Woodcock Reclassifies While Seeking Out More Exposure

WHITBY, Ontario - Nick Woodcock admits to being late to the game when it comes to his baseball development. In fact, so much so that the idea of reclassifying seemed to be essential.

“I thought I needed another year to build and mature,” explained Woodcock, now a 2021 ranked fifth in Canada among incoming senior left-handed pitchers. “My birthday is later and I felt I needed another year to improve my baseball skills as well as boost my grades a little more.”

It was not too long ago that Woodcock, who just turned 17 in December, first considered college baseball even being part of his future.

“It was around 11th grade when I was 15 that I started thinking about it,” Woodcock said of playing collegiately. “I never thought about it before, my skill level wasn’t there. But as I developed and got better at baseball it came to mind that it was something I’d like to do and I’ve kept working at it. Now I want that opportunity to go to college and play baseball.”

An improved game is making it more realistic.

“My velocity has gotten better, my balance is definitely better and my curve ball is faster and breaks better,” the 17th-rated 2021 in Canada noted. “I’ve also been developing a changeup that’s coming along nicely.”

Woodcock points to Rob Butler and Alan Butler as being a big part of his baseball journey.

“He started working with me in grade 10 and taught me a lot about baseball,” Woodcock said of Rob. “He saw my form was not too good and he helped make my balance better which made my whole pitching ability better.
