Oregon State Rallies Past Arizona

Nathan Rode

CORVALLIS, OR—On Thursday, The Rode Show shifted to some college coverage with Oregon State hosting Arizona. LHP Brandon Eisert, No. 191 on the 2019 PBR Draft Board, started for Oregon State. Things didn’t start off too well, as he allowed 11 baserunners through the first four innings on six hits and five walks and gave up a solo home run to 3B Nicholas Quintana and a three-run home run to DH Tony Bullard. But he settled in and struck out six straight at one point, keeping the Beavers in a position to battle back, which they did.

Oregon State had tied it at 1-1 in the third before going down 4-1 in the fourth. C Adley Rutschman, the No. 1 prospect on the PBR Draft Board, hit an inside-the-park home to make it 4-2 in the fifth and the Beavers tied it in the seventh. 2B Jake Harvey gave them a 5-4 lead with an RBI triple in the eighth and 1B Ryan Ober busted it wide open with a three-run home run to left field.

Rutschman finished the night 2-for-3 with the home run and two intentional walks. Eisert went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks while striking out nine. He pitched mostly at 85-87, while mixing in a mid-70s slurve and low-80s changeup. He has deception in his delivery, as he lands closed and pitches way across his body.

Next up, we’ll head to Eugene to see Stanford at Oregon in hopes of seeing RHP Ryne Nelson (Oregon), in addition to OF Kyle Stowers and possibly RHP Jack Little. After that, we’ll drop in on Arizona and Oregon State again for a few more at-bats from Rutschman, Quintana and SS Cameron Cannon (Arizona).
