Game of the Day: Ephrata at Penn Manor

After joining the PBR Pennsylvania PIAA Class AAAA Super 16 this week, Penn Manor stayed hot with a 1-0 win over visiting Ephrata . A second inning tally was all the run support that Jeff Taylor would need, as the sophomore left-handed pitcher struck out ten while allowing just three hits and two walks in a complete game effort.

The Comets tallied the lone run of the game off back-to-back hits to lead off the bottom of the second. Collin Groff tripled on an 0-2 count and came in to score three pitches later on a single from Cameron Dickerson. Taylor took it from there, only allowing one Mounts baserunner to reach as far as third base. That occurred with two outs in the top of the fifth, but, following a four-pitch walk, Taylor induced a comebacker to the mound to end the threat.

Ephrata starting pitcher Matt McGillan (5 H, 1 R,  2 BB, 3 K) nearly matched Taylor's performance with a six inning complete game of his own. But Taylor was too good on this day, holding the first four spots in the Mounts line-up to 0-12 with five strikeouts.

The Comets return to the field on Friday as they look to complete the season sweep of Warwick, while Ephrata will look to do the same against Solanco.
