Inside The Ranking: 2025 LHP Tyler Maddix (Bishop Canevin)

In conjunction with our National and State Rankings being updated and released we will start to roll out more website content regarding the state rankings and a deeper dive into some of the players. Pennsylvania is a talent rich state and there is no service out there today that is scouting, covering, and reporting on more players than the Prep Baseball Report.

Tyler Maddix LHP / OF / Bishop Canevin, PA / 2025

Coming in at No. 19 overall in Pennsylvania's 2025 class, Maddix surely has the stock to keep climbing. Standing 6-foot-0, 160-pounds, the southpaw offers all the fixings of a next-level arm.

Things to like: The frame has room to lengthen out and add weight. The arm works pretty well, especially on the extension part of his front-side, it's fast with no restrictions. The arm-slot is just slightly above a high 3/4 and his FB (82 max) naturally has arm-side run / dive (spin is 2100). Velocity is good enough right now and his ceiling is lofty. There's already signs of spinning the baseball which is something I have always felt couldn't be taught.

Things to work on: Slowing down. The fast tempo works well for some power arms but for Maddix he needs to slow down and repeat his delivery more consistently. His arm-swing has a little "stab action to it" on the back side which works fine but cleaning that up with a more fluid circle + length will help him as he logs more innings.

The Future: Looks very bright for the lean Western PA lefty. I wouldn't be shocked to see the FB velocity really start to climb by the preseason/summer. He's a natural ATH (6.9 runner) so the sky really is the limit for him. Excited to watch him develop.
