East Coast Pro Showcase and Area Code Games are the two highest-profile summer events in which participants are selected by scouts from Major League Baseball organizations. In total, one dozen Pennsylvania high schoolers participated in these prestigious events:
Drew Baughman, 2018, IF, Cumberland Valley - Area Code Underclass Games
Brendan Cellucci, 2017, LHP, William Penn Charter - Area Code Games
Riley Christner, 2017, RHP, Meyersdale Area - East Coast Pro
Joe Lancellotti, 2017, RHP/OF, William Penn Charter - East Coast Pro & Area Code Games
Conor Larkin, 2017, RHP, Spring-Ford - East Coast Pro
Dillon Marsh, 2018, LHP/1B, Lancaster Catholic - Area Code Underclass Games
Zach McCambley, 2017 RHP, Pocono Mountain East - Area Code Games
Chris McMahon, 2017 RHP, West Chester Rustin - East Coast Pro & Area Code Games
Shane Muntz, 2017, RHP/C, Malvern Prep - East Coast Pro & Area Code Games
Tor Sehnert, 2017, OF, Peters Township - East Coast Pro & Area Code Games
Trent Vietmeier, 2017, RHP, Montour - East Coast Pro & Area Code Games
Justin Vought, 2017, C, Wyoming Valley West - East Coast Pro & Area Code Games
As is also reflected in our class of 2017 rankings, right-handed pitching is the strength of this year's senior class. McMahon was the star of the summer with steady performances that saw his fastball top at 94 mph and sit at 91 mph at East Coast Pro. Lancellotti also topped out at 94 mph, holding 90-94 for four innings at Area Code Games, albeit with a frame that is shorter and more filled out, and a delivery that has more effort, than McMahon's.
The 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft is scheduled for June 12-14.
