Western PA Game of the Day: Hampton at Fox Chapel

Fox Chapel picked up a big early season section win over a quality opponent in Hampton on Thursday afternoon, The Foxes established an early 3-0 lead and were able to withstand a late Talbot comeback bid for the victory.

Fox Chapel opened the scoring in the bottom half of the third thanks to four consecutive hits. Alex McRandal started the inning by doubling to right. Alex Mile, Mitchell Miles and Ryan Wagner followed with singles, staking the home team to a 2-0 lead.  A third run scored on a groundout by John Simon.

Hampton responded immediately by plating two runs of their own in the top half of the fourth. The damage was done thanks in large part to a single by Trent Aguiar and doubles by Jon Ibinson and Towson commit, Burke Camper ( above right).

The bottom of the forth saw Fox Chapel stretch the lead to 4-2. Noah Marks was hit by a pitch and scored on an Alex McRandall single. The Foxes added what proved to be the game winner in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Wagner led off with his third hit of the day, a single. He later scored on a Gavin Donaldson laser to left.

Hampton answered back in their half of the sixth, drawing within one, courtesy of a walk, a single by Kent State recruit Tyler Bischke (above left) and a two run single by Casey Marshalwitz. The game ended in dramatic fashion with Hampton having the tying run doubled off second on a line drive to the second baseman.

Multihit games were recorded by Hampton's Aguiar (2-for-4, 1 R) and Fox Chapel's Mitchell Miles (2-for-4, 1 R), Wagner (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and McRandall (2-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI).

Alex miles got the win with a line of 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 SO, 0 BB.
