Sunday February 10th saw 25 of the top players in the 2019 and 2020 classes in North Carolina converge on Kernersville, NC and the Diamond Xtreme athletics facility.  In front of over 25 professional scouts, each player had his chance to show his skills in the pro-style workout.

Pitchers and catchers started the day.  Fifteen of the top arms in the state then went through a controlled bullpen, showing where their stuff is as we get ready for the spring season.  Several arms took considerable steps forward and will be definite follows as we head toward the 2019 MLB Draft.

By any measure, the 2019 ProCase was a huge success for all involved.  Below the NC Director of Scouting takes a quick peak behind the curtain to give his thoughts, notes, and some stats from the day.

• 25 players participated
• 20 players from the 2019 class
• 5 players from the 2020 class
• 15 pitchers threw controlled bullpens
• 8 arms touched 90 on the bump
• 94 mph - New event record in NC

The No. 1 Spot is Locked Down

Chris Villaman (LHP, Ledford HS, 2019) comes into the spring as the No. 1 ranked player in NC's 2019 class.  A veteran of these types of events and the national circuit, the moment was not too big.  Villaman may have had a couple of advantages, being from the area and the only player at the event that attended the 2018 ProCase.  Whether that produced a calmness to his bullpen, we may never know, but what we do know is Villaman commanded the moment and has continued to make progress since we saw him last fall.  After a couple of throws to make sure he was loose, the fastball jumped out of the hand and buzzed to the plate before popping the glove.
