2019 Power 25 - Final Rankings

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Every other week through the 2019 spring season, the staff at PBR sat down to haggle over the Power 25... the only rankings system in North Carolina High School Baseball to rank the top 25 teams in the state regardless of their classification of play.

The premise is very difficult as several metrics may not carry over from one classification to another.  The eye test is used as our staff saw over 225 high school teams play this spring, but the eye test can be limited to what was seen on one specific night.  The staff at PBR poured over stats, notes, comments, conversations with coaches, the PBR/NCBCA Poll, and any other information that could shine a light on who are the top teams in the state.

After hours or arguing and debate, we are proud to release the Final Power 25 of 2019.

Power 25 Notes

Six State Champions Make the Cut

  • New Hanover HS checks in at No. 1 in the State of NC.  The Wildcats were tested in the state tournament, beating a top draft pick in the quarterfinals and being pushed to the verge of elimination by DH Conley HS in the Eastern Region Finals, taking game 3 in walk-off fashion in extra-innings.  The Wildcats answered every challenge throughout the year, with multiple star players, including the 1st round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Blake Walston.
