2019 Preseason All-Defensive Team

The preseason is a time of looking forward and even projecting what could happen as the 2019 North Carolina High School season is set to begin.  Today we take a look at some of the best defensive players in North Carolina.  The 2019 Preseason All-Defensive team is based on North Carolina players in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 classes.  The PBR staff broke down evaluations and stats on hundreds of players to come up with these 25 players.

In putting the team together, the roster was set at 25 players.  There were some loose parameters on numbers of players to represent each position on the field, but in the end we wanted to honor the best defensive players in NC.  As our staff talked about the process of putting this team together, it became very difficult to cut the team down to 25.  As best as we could, we only looked at current and future defensive prowess in determining the players that would be added to the club.

PBR 2019 Preseason All-Defensive Team

Pitchers

8 members of the 2019 All-Defensive Team are primary pitchers.  There is a section of the roster set for utility players and we will address that below.  For the pitchers selected, the PBR staff looked at the pitchers ability to dominate a hitter, field his position, eliminate the short game, and control the running game.  Six of the eight arms are in the 2019 class with one from the 2020 class and one from the 2021 class.  The initial list of arms that PBR considered numbered over 50 players.  The last cut was the toughest, working from 17 down to 8.  Here are the pitchers representing the PBR 2019 Preseason All-Defensive Team.
