With a big summer on the recruiting circuit ahead of them, the 2020 class has already started to make some noise coming out of the preseason. Uncommitted and waiting to be discovered, this week’s On the Hunt features four potential two-way players as well as two right-handed pitchers. Each player shows the capability of playing at the next level, and college coaches will want to jot their names down as players to follow throughout the spring and summer.

Trey Carter OF / RHP / Carlisle, VA / 2020

Carter exploded onto the scene at PBR Virginia’s Preseason All-State Showcase where he presented himself as a two-way prospect to follow moving into the spring. An impressive athlete with a physical frame, Carter already stands 6-foot-3, 190-pounds with lean muscle throughout. Hitting from the right side, Carter has a segmented load back with a toe-tap stride. His hands feature advanced quickness through the zone, and ball jumps off his bat with a 91 mph exit velocity. He has a direct path to the ball, and shows the ability to drive it from gap to gap with more power, likely, on the way. Perhaps even more impressive is the arm strength that Carter possesses. From the outfield he unleashes throws up to 92 mph with carry. It translates to the mound where he worked 86-88 with the fastball in an early bullpen session. Utilizing a simple, repeatable delivery, Carter has a short, quick arm swing that releases out of a high ¾ slot with a slight head snap out front. The advanced hand speed that he gets through the ball with allows it to jump through the zone, and will likely bring even more velocity in the future. His secondary pitches are still developing, but he features a breaking ball at 68-71 and a changeup at 70-73. Overall, there is a lot to like about Carter’s athleticism, and given his physical frame, quick hands at the plate, and striking arm strength, expect college recruiters to follow him throughout the spring/summer.
