Hillcrest - 5 Summerville - 3

Game One of the Class 5A State Championship brought the competitiveness out of both the Hillcrest Rams and Summerville Green Wave teams on Tuesday night. The Green Wave fought back after falling down by five runs in the top of the first inning to the hot and ready bats of the Rams.

Hillcrest jumped on the lead quickly on a single by Huston Curry, a double from Carson Erlewine and a single by Connor David. Starting pitcher, Colin Elmore, backed up the Rams offensive effort on the mound, only allowing 3 runs on 4 hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three. College of Charleston commit Wyatt Stone, backed up his effort with solid relief from the bullpen throwing one and one-third innings, striking out two.

The Green Waves scored three runs in an effort to make a comeback in the bottom of the third on an error, a single from Maddox Webb and another Rams error. Starting pitcher and South Carolina commit Aidan Hunter, quickly regained his confidence on the mound and threw a complete game not allowing any more runs for the remainder of competition. However, it was not quite enough for the Green Wave offense to create any advantage in late innings and the Rams prevailed.

Aiden Hunter, RHP/INF, Summerville, 2021
South Carolina commit. Long, tall, athletic build, with long limbs and a defined lower half which allows for a strong base on the mound. Potential to add strength.
