NC Inside the Overall 2023 Rankings Update

Brandon Hall
Executive Director of Scouting, PBR NC

Last week the PBR Overall 2023 Class Rankings were updated and expanded to the top 400 players in the country.  The state of North Carolina was well represented with 13 players making the list and a slew of players on the cusp of being in the next update.

The spring and summer of 2020 have created issues for the staff of PBR to keep up with a big year in development for the 2023 class.  The spring season was cut short and most players have seen their summer and fall seasons impacted by COVID restrictions.  PBR was still out watching games practices, workouts, tournaments, and running their own events.  While the final chapter on the 2023 class is far from being written, the PBR scouting staff already has a good handle on some of the players college coaches and pro scouts will be following in the coming years.

Below we dive into the updated Overall PBR 2023 Rankings, with a focus on North Carolina players in the rankings.  In the coming weeks, PBR of NC will release our updated rankings for the state.

NC Inside the 2023 Rankings

All 13 players ranked in the Overall PBR Rankings, from North Carolina, have committed.  There are several high level athletes in the mix for national recognition, along with high end arms that will be on radars for the next several years.  At the top spot is Florida State commit Justin Best (OF, Langtree Charter).  Best is a raw athlete but has advanced ball to bat skills from the left side.  With hand strength and good hand-eye coordination, Best has continued to hit at a high level each time he is on a big stage.

Tyler Zedalis (INF, Cox Mill HS) will challenge Best for the top hitter in the state in the years to come.  Zedalis had a big summer swinging the bat that culminated with a commitment to South Carolina.  A prototypical build in the right-handed hitter, the ball jumps off the bat.
