San Antonio Baseball Classic

SAN ANTONIO - Thirty teams from around South and Central Texas converged in six sites scattered throughout the Alamo City for a three day tournament.

SA Churchill 11 - Judson 3
SMITHSON VALLEY - Churchill got out to a quick lead with a four-run first inning and never looked back.

Notable Players:
Senior Hudson Head, an OF/LHP committed to Oklahoma, took the mound for Churchill. Working from a high, whippy ¾ slot and slight cross to his delivery, he throws a heavy two-seam fastball with late, sharp arm side movement at 85-87 that produced big swings and misses on the day. He showed a big 1/7 shape curveball with glove side tilt at 70-72, and a short fading changeup 78-80. Head showed command of both sides of the zone, pitching with aggression, and quick tempo. A primary OF, a large handful of scouts were on site to catch a glimpse of Head’s swing. The No. 53 ranked PBR TX player is high waisted, extremely athletic in his build, and shows room for more growth. He has a wide stride from his leg kick, and has plus bat speed.

Big-bodied sophomore Rilan Quinones, Churchill’s 3B, had a nice day going 3-3 with a line-drive double. Standing 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, Quinones has a lot of body to fill into and he shows natural strength already. Bat stayed long through the zone, hands had a short load and carried the barrel on plane with ease and he tracked the ball well throughout his at-bats.
