The underclass pitching duel between 2022 Sebastian Perez of West Broward and 2023 Chrisitan Rodriguez of Stoneman Douglas, definitely lived up to the hype early. While Douglas would scratch across a run in the first, Perez would settle and dominate the next four innings.  He attacked with a high spin (2372-2592) fastball at 88-92 mph that got quite a few swings and misses. He worked that off of a curveball at 74-75 mph with depth and consistently in the 2400 rpm range. He also flashed a changeup with some fading action at 85 mph.

Rodriguez though would match him pitch for pitch. He would be mostly dominant through his four innings of work, scattering four hits and one walk while striking out six and allowing no runs. His poise on the mound, especially for his class is really what stands out. As he wasn't able to land a slider in the first,  made an adjustment and went to it confidently throughout the rest of the game. He sat mostly 90-93 mph with the fastball with a very quick arm and late life. He also mixed in a curveball and split as he showed feel for all four pitches at times throughout the outing

West Broward would strike in the fifth on the bullpen of Stoneman Douglas, with a double from Derek Bermudez and singles from Dean Guzman and Juan Pablo Correa to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

The lead would not last long though, as a leadoff Gavin Gonticello infield single, followed by singles from Santiago Ordanez, Jake Clemete, a strikeout and a single from Cameron Harris and the score would be tied at 3-3. A squeeze from Grant McDonald wold give Douglas the 4-3 and they would not look back. West Broward would go to the bullpen and Douglas would add four more before the inning would be over and hold on to win 8-3.
