California Winter Risers: Pitchers

Les Lukach
State Scouting Director

We have covered over 30 games and events since we launched last month and have had a chance to see many players. With the season getting set to start in SoCal this week, we wanted to highlight some players that have made an impression on us so far.

Below is a list of players in no particular order that stood out. Some are committed while most remain uncommitted at this point. Something that is sure to change in the near future.

NOTES

2/7/18-

UCLA commit. Hahn continues to show that he might be the best two-way player in his class. On the mound he continues to pound the zone at 88-91 with easy arm action that projects to add a tick more velocity as he matures physically - he’s still only 16! His breaking ball already has the makings of a plus pitch with it’s tight, hard, downward plane that flashes good depth. It sits at 73-75, touching 76. Offensively is where Hahn may earn his keep. The swing is fluid and reminds many of former teammate and 2017 first round pick, Nick Pratto. Hahn has shown the ability to generate a tick more power than Pratto and with more consistency. Hahn’s swing path is consistent and he keeps the barrel in the hitting zone. A disciplined hitter, Hahn shows very good pitch recognition and plate coverage that belies his age.

1/12/18 -

UCLA commit. 6-foot-1, 190 pound frame with room for refinement. A legitimate two-way player presently who could do the same in college if given the chance. Hahn pitched and hit in this game and did both at a high level. Working 88-91, the UCLA commit touched 92 twice. Fastball shows good arm side run. He also busted it inside to righties a few times. His curveball was primarily 73-75. It was tight, hard, and showed good depth. Used it as an out pitch more than once. At the plate Hahn hit a no-doubt homerun to right center field off an 84 mile per hour fastball away. Made consistent, loud contact in every other at bat on the day.
