Coast II Coast - Juco Candidates

As the calendar flips over to 2021, the clock is ticking for the high school seniors and “victory lap” players across Canada.

Here, we’ll take a look at some players Coast to Coast that most JUCOs should be going after as early-season senior pickups:

HUNTER PORTER1B / OF / VAUXHALL , AB / 2021

Report: Out of Vauxhall in Alberta, Hunter Porter is 6-4, 210-pounds, and hits from the right side. Defensively in the outfield, there’s work to be done, but he moves well when he runs, and he’s likely going to hit at the next level. At JUCO, he could get bigger and stronger, which would make him pretty interesting down the road.

RAPHAEL DELISLEOF / RHP / N/A, QC / 2021

Report: Physically, he’s one of the better looking players on the list. In the outfield, his arm is up to 91. The swing is smooth, just needs to add strength. Shows good actions on the mound, and could pan out there as well. Delisle is in a post-secondary program (CEGEP) in Quebec, meaning he could commit as a 20-year old in the Fall of 2022, as well.

BRODY ALEXANDRE3B / 1B / NA, BC / 2020

Report: Initially committed to Central Arizona, Alexandre came back for his victory lap year. We’ve known about Alexandre since he was an underager at the Canada Cup, where he hit, T12 that year, where he hit a home run at the Rogers Centre, and now out in BC. Before shutdown in the Fall, Alexandre hit four home runs in the Blaze’s shortened schedule.

RHYS MONTGOMERYLHP / OF / OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL, ON / 2021

Report: It’s tough to look away from a 6-5 lefty. Montgomery hasn’t ever been the velo type arm, but he throws strikes, and actually has a resume that few kids have in high school. In 2018, he threw a perfect game for the Terriers down in Nashville, the first in their program’s history. We’ve seen him up to 83, and feel for the zone. The secondary stuff works, and he’s always found a way to get outs.

TYRELLE CHADWICK1B / RHP / WESTSYDE SECONDARY, AB / 2021

Report: One of the few guys in the country that has a lot of raw power is Tyrelle Chadwick. Standing at 6-5, 215, Chadwick flicks his wrists at the plate, and it’s loud off the bat. When we saw him last, the broadness was there, and when he leans out he could end up being a solid  option at first base. If that doesn’t work out, he’s also been up to 90 on the mound.

HAIDEN LETZINGOF / C / FLEETWOOD PARK, BC / 2021

Report: If you need an outfielder who hits, and moves pretty well, Haiden Letzing is your guy. He had a strong Fall, he’s got some pop, and he stands at 6-4, 200. The swing is clean, he hits to all fields, and he’s big.

LOUIS PHILIPPE LANGEVINRHP / NPU-OVS, QC / 2021

Report: A big, physical righty from Quebec, LP Langevin is probably going to be a D1 arm some day. At 6-1, 205, we’ve seen him up to 90 regularly, and he’s got a fairly advanced feel for the zone with his fastball. Langevin pitched at the Future Games, and was up to 85, but it was clean and repeatable.
