Lugoff-Elgin Piles Up Runs Again; LCA Reaches the Championship

Day 2 of the Shipyard / PBR Showdown featured 2 more games in the pool play format, as we ready for the Championship setting on Sunday.  Below we recap the games from Shipyard Park, highlighting player performances.  We also have a link to our Scout Blog for the weekend, with in-depth player analysis. 

As we continue to follow the tournament play, we will update player stats and highlight an all-tournament team.

 

Shipyard / PBR Showdown

 

Game 4

Stratford HS – 2                Legion Collegiate Academy – 4

Legion Collegiate (LCA) would ride 6 innings of work from Joey Hylinski, and score two runs in their final at-bat to secure a 4-2 win over Stratford HS.  Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th, Jack Killelea would produce a 1 out single followed by a push bunt single from Devin ParksEthan Belk’s single to left would score 1 giving LCA the lead.  One insurance run when Parks crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Hylinski was a bit wild early on, hitting a total of 4 batters and walking two.  As the game progressed he became sharp, producing 5 strikeouts and a lot of weak contact.  In total, Hylinski threw 59% of his pitches for strikes in the 101 pitch outing.

Jackson Blass took the hard luck loss in a complete game effort.  Blass struckout 5, limiting the LCA offense to just 5 hits.

Game 5

Ashley Ridge HS – 5                       Lugoff-Elgin – 11

Two big innings early sent Lugoff-Elgin towards a win, their second in two days.  In total, the Demons rapped out 13 hits, with two doubles.  Offensively Zane Catoe led the way with 3 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBI.

On the mound Owen McElveen worked 5 innings, surrendering 2 runs, only 1 earned, while walking one and striking out one.  McElveen, a strike thrower threw 42 of his 72 pitches on the day for strikes. 

Jace Holbrook worked 3.1 innings in relief for Ashley Ridge, giving the Swamp Foxes a chance to make a run, limiting the Demon offense to just 1 run.  Holbrook struckout 2 and walked one, while working around 5 hits.

Ashley Ridge will conclude their week with the 9am consolation game on Sunday.  Lugoff-Elgin will play in the semi-final game at 9:30, with a chance to face Legion Collegiate at 12pm.

1:00pm  Winner of Stratford / Lugoff-Elgin vs. Legion Collegiate

*Both Legion Collegiate and Lugoff-Elgin are 2-0 in the event.  Legion Collegiate gets the bye to the Championship game based on Runs Allowed in their 1st two games.
