On Deck Preview: Team NY Outfielders

Jared Carrier
Scouting Director

Team New York will be making their way down to Lakepoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the Prep Baseball Report Future Games on July 31-August 4. We take a look at who will be tracking it down in the gaps in the Peach state this week.

Outfielders

Note: 2021 Chance Checca (Ballston Spa), mentioned in the corner infielders preview, will also see time in the outfield.

Jay Pichardo OF / North Rockland , NY / 2021

Physically impressive RHH who has twice run a 6.65 on the dot in his last two events. All kinds of explosiveness packed into a 5-foot-10 170 pound frame. Active feet, quick first step in the OF with arm strength that has recently bumped up to 88 MPH.

Jovani Wiggs OF / OF / Shaker , NY / 2021

The lone returner to the Future Games from 2018, Wiggs suffered a serious injury during his HS football season (as a star RB) fracturing both his tibia and fibia this past October. Wiggs ran a top 5 Future Games 60 last summer at 6.48 and swung it well during the live action. He's packed on 10 pounds of muscle since last summer; we are looking forward to having him get after it once again.

Gavyn Boyle OF / 1B / Royalton-Hartland, NY / 2022

Boyle, along with teammate Michael Lombardi, was a member of the JR Futures squad that impressed last year in Indiana. One of three 2022's on the roster Boyle can swing it from the left side with gap ability. Well put together 6-foot-2 180 pounds with an accurate arm and 6.89 speed.

Matthew Canizares OF / RHP / Monsignor McClancy , NY / 2021

Probably no other player on the Team NY roster gets more out of their build then the 5-foot-10 160 pound Canizares. The 7.09-7.11 runner has shown an above average arm (91 MPH at NYS) games with a swing path that shows natural lift. Continues to improve each time out.

Itai Spinoza LHP / OF / Fayetteville Manlius , NY / 2021

The LHH has shown a flat path through the zone with some natural lift to his pull side; the corner OF has show above average arm strength, peaking at 90 MPH at the NYS Games. Spinoza will also see time on the mound in Georgia.

Nicholas Vega OF / RHP / Fordham Prep, NY / 2021

Vega burst on the local scene early this June and after next week he might be on the national one as well. Pro build at 6-foot-3 188 pounds; corner OF projection with plenty of arm strength. Above average bat speed through the zone with power projection. Will be a fun player to follow over the four days in Georgia.
