Prep Baseball Report

Player Notes: 2022 & 2023s to Follow

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR of NC

Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina was on hand for the ESC Showcase weekend in Greensboro at the Grasshoppers stadium from Friday June 26 - Sunday June 28.  Teams representing four organizations each brought two teams, a 2021 team and a 2022 or 2023 team.  The round robin format created a competitive environement throughout the weekend.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the stadium would not allow parents inside to watch.  With PBR of NC's new ability to live stream in HD, the teams brought PBR in to evaluate the games and stream them to coaches, scouts, and parents.  The live stream involved three HD camera, each with a unique tight view, as well as a full field view which incorporated an LED board reading velocity from a Stalker Pro SII radar gun.

In the coming days, notes from PBR scouts in attendance will break down players from each club in attendance.  Below we take a look at the stats collected by PBR and some of the leaders from each category.

Rawlings Prospects NC 2023

Chase Arrington, RHP, North Raleigh Christian Academy, 2023
5-foot-7, 130 pounds.  Long arm swing, plunging out of the glove, working back to an over-the-top slot.  Lands on-line and square.  Above average arm speed.  Erratic at times, using that to his advantage early.  Fastball at 77-80.  Good arm speed on the change-up, with fade, creating some swing and miss at 74.

H.L. Smith, LHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2023
Lanky with presence and advanced athleticism for his 6-foot-4, 165 pound frame.  Works with rhythm and direction.
