On Sunday, February 5, Prep Baseball Report will host the 21st edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. This invitation-only event features only the top draft prospects in the Prep Baseball Report’s expansive coverage area. Over the last 20 years, the Super 60 has become the most heavily scouted preseason event for potential draft picks. The primary purpose of the Super 60 is to give professional area scouts, cross-checkers and scouting directors a head start to the high school season. The event is for draft-eligible Class of 2023 prospects.
Tennessee will have two players attending Sunday's event in Chicago. Today, we'll take a look at our representatives, C/UTL Trenton Lyons (Christian Brothers HS; Ole Miss Signee) and INF Carson Rucker (Goodpasture Christian; Tennessee Signee).
Trenton Lyons C / SS / Christian Brothers, TN / 2023Lyons burst onto the scene in the summer of 2020 as he represented Team TN at the PBR Future Games. He had a lean, athletic frame and swing repeatability as a switch hitting mega-utility man. Over the years, he continued to fill out his frame and continue to make strides in his game. He's now 6-foot-3, 190-lb athletic frame with room to add mass. He still possess swing consistency from both sides of the plate, but slightly favors his left side with more power. Defensively, he's a primary catcher with soft receiving hands and good arm strength (T 1.91 in 2021). His versatility and projectability make Lyons's game standout as he logged a 6.80 sixty in 2021 and can play all over the field (SS/3B/OF). Last Spring, Lyons hit .375 with 7 doubles, 7 triples, and two home runs. He's an Ole Miss signee and risen to no. 3 in the 2023 TN class rankings. His father, Jon Lyons, was a standout pitcher at Memphis and played four years in the minors with the Boston Red Sox (1997-2000). Lyons will be showcasing his tools at catcher and infield this weekend to go along with his smooth switch-hitting stroke. |
Carson Rucker SS / 3B / Goodpasture Christian, TN / 2023Rucker was on our radar before he played a high school inning as he was a Team TN member at the 2019 PBR Junior Future Games. At that point, he was a lanky, wiry infielder, who had an outstanding glove and solid bat. Over the years, he has continued to add substantial strength and fill out as he's now 6-foot-2, 200-lb. He's developed more power each year and puts out consistent offensive production. Last Spring, he was named D2-A Mr. Baseball after hitting .541 with 13 doubles, 14 home runs, and 77 RBIs. He's got a tall, relaxed stance with a small leg kick and rhythm in hands. Shown the ability to spray line drives and work the gaps with authority. Defensively, he's played both SS and 3B with smooth hands and good arm strength. Rucker can make all the plays on the left side plus an extraordinary one mixed in. He's a Tennessee signee and risen to no. 4 in the 2023 TN class rankings. His brother, Jake Rucker, was recently a three-yr starter at Tennessee and was a 7th round MLB draft pick in 2021 to the Minnesota Twins. Rucker will be showcasing his tools on the infield this weekend to go along with his highly productive righty swing. |
