Dulins Dodgers: Scout Notes

Phil Haig
Texas Scouting Director

McKINNEY, T.X.- Earlier this summer our staff was able to witness a scrimmage between two high-end programs in the Academy Select Baseball Club and the Dulins Dodgers. The prospects between to the two teams featured high-end arms, high-end catchers, and high-end position players all over the field. The gameplay between the two clubs was intense with both teams playing with high energy and intent to win the game. Featured below are scout notes on a few standouts from the Dulins Dodgers.

PITCHERS

+ 2022 LHP Griffin Herring (Soutlake Carroll): LSU recruit, was up to 89 on the day, threw a small cutter that was a little inconsistent early but got better deeper into the outing, throws a 2 and 4 seam with different spin but similar action per Trackman. Missed to the armside early but was able to dial it in and pound the zone. Also flashed a CB at 72 that played well when used. Herring will be a big arm moving forward as he continues to develop.

* Griffin Herring

+ 2021 RHP Jason Burger (Grand Oaks) - Relatively raw on the mound but flashed many things to like on the day. FB up to 87 on the day and showed multiple right on right changeups with good arm speed and natural deception. Shows a quick arm, some funk in there, throws from a 3/4 slot. The breaking ball is a work in progress but showed things to like on the day.

+ 2021 LHP Chandler Benson (Frisco Liberty): Nebraska recruit: Showed a natural tempo within the delivery allowing him to repeat quality pitches. Creates a tough angle when getting the ball to the glove side but was also able to get some swings and misses at the top of the zone as well. FB was up to 87 on the day and showed a breaking ball at 75 that played well off of it.

POSITION PLAYERS

+ 2021 RHP/3B Rawley Hector (Anna) Texas A&M recruit. Did not get on the bump that day, but still showed well defensively and at the plate. During BP worked the middle of the field and flashed some pull side pop. Made a couple real nice plays at 3B during game play. Player to follow for next years draft. No. 3 in the State Rankings and No. 20 in the Overall Rankings

* Rawley Hector

2022 SS/RHP Cade Mcgarrh (Frisco Liberty):  Texas Tech recruit infielder, Smaller frame with lots of room to put on strength as he matures. Natural instincts in the field with hands and feet that work in the field. The swing works and plays and will also only get better with added strength.

+ 2021 Connor McGinnis (Hebron): Uncommitted. A left-handed bat that showed well during BP. Showed some rhythm in hands and feel for barrel. Flashing some pull side power to the gap and hit a few balls out. Also got him 4.2 down the line in game.

* Connor McGinnis

2022 SS/RHP Lane Forsythe (Trinity Christian, TN): Mississippi State recruit. simple setup and swing, MOF approach, feel for barrel. Forsythe was still knocking the rust off but showed his tools and ability to play the game.

+ 2021 SS Kevin Duran (Cleburne) Uncommitted: Has a strong compact frame, attacks baseball, slightly uphill some in BP but the ball jumped off the bat. Duran is a toolsy player that has shown well in front of the PBR staff multiple times.
