Charles Alvis, 1B, LaVergne HS, 2016
At 6-foot-5, 210-pounds, Alvis is an imposing figure on the diamond who shows some next level potential and had a good showing at the Fall Top Prospect Games on November 1 at Lipscomb University.
The big, strong first baseman shows good lateral movement, soft hands, and good footwork around the bag. His arm velocity registered at 76 mph across the field with line carry to the bag.
At the plate, the right-handed hitter hits from a spread stance, keeps his weight back, and maintains good balance throughout his swing. Alvis showed the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field with good rhythm and plate coverage. His 79 mph exit velocity off the tee doesn’t jump out, but he showed better bat speed during batting practice and game play and shows middle of the lineup potential. He went 1-for-4 with a single up the middle during game play at the event.
Alvis has the potential to provide big production in the middle of the lineup in the upcoming 2015 season for the Wolverines that could solidify him as a power guy to watch.
