St. Louis Open: Outfielders Analysis

On February 10, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the St. Louis Open at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, Missouri.  Over 70 players attended in the 2021 to 2018 classes. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the outfielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The outfielders at the St. Louis Open has seven players with an 81 mph positional velo or better, two were at 89 mph.  Two players had 94 or better exit velocities and three ran a 7.20 or better 60 yard-dash.  Here is a closer look at the outfielders from the event

Outfielders

Sean Barnett OF / RHP / Rockwood Summit, MO / 2022

Barnett is a 6-foot 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a thin stance, short stride, slightly closed stride, slight natural lift path through the hitting zone.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, small crow hop after catch, fluid exchange on time with footwork, athletic actions through the ball with momentum. 

Bryce Broyles OF / SS / CBC, MO / 2021

Broyles is an athletically built 6-foot 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.18 60 and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth load with slight rotation and hands walking away from inline stride, consistent hard middle to pull side contact.  In the outfield, throws right, high three quarters arm slot, clean transfer, 72 mph positional velocity, take route behind the ball.

 

 

CJ Cepicky SS / OF / Vianney , MO / 2020

Cepicky is a long and lean 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 6.97 60 and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, hands separate from stride, quick hand with fast bat speed, body stays under control, consistent hard contact during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 87 mph positional velocity, aggressive thrower, over the top release, momentum through the catch, feet and hands in sync during exchange, loose arm action, quick actions.

Jacob Cordevant SS / OF / Seckman, MO / 2020

Cordevant is a 5-foot-11 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.01 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a balanced stance, crouched, quick pre pitch rhythm, little hand load, in line stride, level path, sprayed line drives gap to gap.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, takes route behind the ball and through the catch, maintains momentum though the catch, clean transfer.

Clayton Guzdial OF / RHP / Westminster, MO / 2018

Guzdial is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.15 60 and has a 95 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, works load raising front toe, short and in line stride, level path, loose hands, gap to gap line drives, consistent hard contact.  In the outfield, 89 mph positional velocity, loose high three quarter arm slot, crow hop to create momentum, fluid exchange working through the ball, throws downhill, throws have carry.

Tyler Heglar OF / RHP / Troy , MO / 2021

Heglar is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.38 60 and has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, quiet hands, leg kick, smooth load, minimal hand movement, loose hands with middle to pull side line drives.  In the outfield,  84 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, works though the ball with quick feet can clean exchange. 

Bryce Kaibel OF / RHP / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2020

Kaibel is a 6-foot-1 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 8.15 60 and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, stride is short and inline, slight natural lift to swing path, middle to opposite field contact with hard contact to pull side.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, 76 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball, clean exchanges, quick catch and throw.

Maxwell Luna OF / RHP / Vianney, MO / 2020

Luna is a 5-foot-10 177-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and has a 96 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth weight shift to back side, fast hands and bat speed, aggressive swing, middle to pull side contact with pull side power.  In the outfield, over the top release, 81 mph positional velocity, aggressive through the ball, works downhill, arm works, quick transfer.

Layton Mallow OF / RHP / North St. Francios County R1, MO / 2020

Mallow is an athletically 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open stance, loads hands and lower half, short stride, in line, fluid pre pitch rhythm, loose and quick hands, level path,  gap to gap approach, repeatable swing.  In the outfield, over the top release, 81 mph positional velo, athletic actions, loose arm action, transfer on time with feet, works through the ball with momentum, quick catch and throw. 

Ryan Malzahn RHP / 1B / O'Fallon Christian , MO / 2020

Malzahn is a long and lean 6-foot-4 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.94 60 and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal load, short stride, quick hands with level path, stays on ball, hands generate bat whip.  In the outfield, over the top release, fluid foot with clean exchange, maintains momentum through the catch, 75 mph positional velocity, still developing frame with room to add strength. 

Jacob McCauley OF / RHP / Vianney, MO / 2020

McCauley is a 5-foot-11 162-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.31 60 and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, quick knee lift, in line stride, level path through the zone, mostly middle to pull side line drives.  In the outfield, high three quarter arm slot, 78 mph positional velocity, works behind and through the ball, quick transfer with momentum to throw after the catch.

Craig McGee OF / RHP / Lutheran North, MO / 2020

McGee is a well built 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.68 60 and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg lift, quiet hands, lands with stride in line, gap to gap approach. In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, clean glove to hand transfer, works through hop and catch, body stays under control, crow hop to create momentum.

Bryce Mckinnon SS / OF / Seckman, MO / 2019

McKinnon is a 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.52 60 and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts loaded on back leg, controlled pre-pitch rhythm, loose and quick hands, level path to extension, controlled to stride, accelerated swing, good tempo, swing produced solid contact mostly middle to pull side.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velocity, loose over the top release, clean exchange, plays though the ball with momentum, soft hands push through the hop, athletic build.

Will Mueller OF / RHP / Westminster , MO / 2021

Mueller is a 6-foot-2 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.84 60 and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open stance, controlled and smooth load, no wasted movement, quick hands with feel for the barrel, solid and hard contract, flashing power to pull side.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive through the catch with momentum, feet and hands on time for clean exchange, long and lean frame, still developing with already smooth actions.

Tyler Petro OF / 2B / Timberland , MO / 2021

Petro is a 5-foot-7 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, mostly pull side contact during hitting evaluations, open stance, level bat path, simple and repeatable load, loose hand quick through the zone, body stays under control during swing.  In the outfield, over the top release, 75 mph positional velocity, quick actions with clean exchanges, works through the ball with momentum. 

Chase Racherbaumer 2B / OF / Hermann , MO / 2019

Racherbaumer is a 5-foot-10 145-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.28 60 and has a 72 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, some hand load, closes off a bit to stride, hands create bat whip, swing produced mostly middle to pull side line drives.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velocity, crop hops, high three quarters arm slot, works behind the ball, catches the ball out front, clean exchange.

Carter Roth OF / C / Valle Catholic , MO / 2019

Roth is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.31 60 and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift, mostly quiet hands, level path through the zone, sprayed line drives gap to gap during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, works through the ball, maintains momentum, crop hop, 81 mph positional velocity, throws have carry.

Hunter Tabor OF / RHP / Francis Howell North, MO / 2019

Tabor is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.02 60 and has a 95 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, showed power to pull side and feel for the barrell, tall and thin stance, controlled leg lift, in line stride, hands are fast and level through the zone, hard consistent contact during hitting evaluations. In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive through the catch with momentum, exchange and feet work together in sync, throws down hill with carry, 89 mph positional velocity.
