TN: 5 Star Scout Day Hitters

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On October 21st, Cumberland hosted a Scout Day for the 5 Star organization.  This event included a position player workout, followed by pitchers throwing a 10-15 pitch pen on the game mound. Players were afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the PBR Tennessee staff. Due to rain, the position player portion was filmed on the side field next to the baseball field and all the hitting occurred indoors.  The following is a look at every position player that attended the event!

5-10, 200-pounder showed ability to drive the baseball while throwing the ball better than we have seen in the past.  Medium, stocky frame w/ physical lower half, some upper body projection.  Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ very short hand rhythm into leg kick to slightly closed and no hand load.  Generates above average bat speed through the zone.  Proper bat path w/ natural loft.  Quiet, repeatable swing.  Projects to hit for average w/ all fields power.  Present pull power w/ projectable all fields power.  Ball jumps off his bat w/ back-spin.  As a receiver, presented an occasional low target for his pitchers, can present it earlier to give the pitcher a better visual cue.  Strong fore-arms, shows ability to stick the baseball.  Got into better stances as the bullpens went along and he got comfortable with the pitcher and his timing.  As a thrower, shows solid release w/ a short cocking action at times that created an occasional rotational throw and caused him to misfire to the third base side of the second base bag.
