5-foot-10, 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher, physical frame with a strong lower half. Offensively, slightly open setup with a bend in his knees, leg kick timing trigger, hands start back, no load. Present bat speed, creates natural loft with swing, repeats, generates hard contact to middle/pull side. Collected multiple extra base hits throughout the weekend.
5-10, 200-pounder showed ability to drive the baseball while throwing the ball better than we have seen in the past. Medium, stocky frame w/ physical lower half, some upper body projection. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ very short hand rhythm into leg kick to slightly closed and no hand load. Generates above average bat speed through the zone. Proper bat path w/ natural loft. Quiet, repeatable swing. Projects to hit for average w/ all fields power. Present pull power w/ projectable all fields power. Ball jumps off his bat w/ back-spin. As a receiver, presented an occasional low target for his pitchers, can present it earlier to give the pitcher a better visual cue. Strong fore-arms, shows ability to stick the baseball. Got into better stances as the bullpens went along and he got comfortable with the pitcher and his timing. As a thrower, shows solid release w/ a short cocking action at times that created an occasional rotational throw and caused him to misfire to the third base side of the second base bag.
10/14/18 - Pop Time: 2.15-2.19, Position Velocity: C-73, Exit Velocity: 85 5-foot-10, 200-pound, LHH continued to show his loud bat speed and ability to drive the baseball. Medium, stocky frame w/ physical lower half, some upper body projection. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ very short hand rhythm into leg kick to slightly closed and quiet hands. Generates above average bat speed through the zone. Simple, repeatable swing. All fields approach w/ natural loft. Lot of power in the swing, understands how to maximize his bat speed. Projectable power to all fields. Defensively, presents a solid low target for his pitchers w/ open glove, can present the target earlier, as he presents it when the pitcher is about to throw. Agile, moves well behind the plate with ability to box the baseball. Strong forearms, shows ability to stick the baseball. As a thrower, shows projectable carry to target arm strength w/ a rotational throw and short cocking action. Tools to be at least an average thrower as he refines his release.
6/13/18 - Home-1st: 4.75, Pop Time: 2.22-2.25, Position Velocity: C-74, Exit Velocity: 77 5-foot-9, 180-pound, LHH picked up a couple walks and a couple hits in game, showcasing his advanced bat. Short, sturdy profile w/ present lower half strength, some physical projection. Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into toe tap to slightly closed and short hand load. Generates above average bat speed through the zone, much better than exit velocity indicates. Pull oriented approach w/ good plate coverage, shows ability to hit the outside pitch. Just a hitter, barrel feel w/ ability to drive the baseball. Projects to hit w/ more reps. Projectable pull power, chance for all fields power as works to remain consistent with lower half. Projectable below average runner, not a clogger. Defensively, is a hopper to his target, presents a big target at the hitters knees. Can get into position earlier. Shows tools to receive w/ an understanding of how to frame the baseball. Will learn how to be more discrete as he ages and matures. Sticks the baseball. Shows ability to box the baseball. As a thrower, shows solid release w/ solid feet, projectable average arm strength w/ short cocking action in back.
12/10/16 - 60 Time: 8.04, Pop Time: 2.28-2.39, Position Velocity: C-72, IF-72, Exit Velocity: 76 5-foot-7, 155-pound, LHH hits from a balanced and open stance with quiet hands, uses a toe-tap to get even into a very abbreviated leg kick and hardly any hand movement to get loaded, lower half tries to get through but can force him a little tall and forward at times, bat path flattens out just before contact with some lift and allowed him to really get through the ball at times, ton of potential. Defensively, starts very compact behind the plate, showed good hands and average footwork, exchange and arm action are a little longer but will brush up with time, also has ability to play in the infield. One to keep an eye on.
