The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Lions had a roller coaster of a season with a roster loaded with senior talent in 2022. They snuck by Davidson Academy in the D2-A first round and took Silverdale to game three with a state tourney appearance on the line, but ultimately lost to finish the year 21-16. Looking ahead, it will be a very youthful group this season to replace the graduating class, but they’ll return a high caliber ace on the mound. ‘23 LHP Griffin Graves (Auburn) will be the headliner and should garner some pro scout looks this Spring. He was up to 91 last February with a wipe out breaking ball and will be a force on the mound. ‘24 UTL/RHP Nick Jones will be a reliable number two and can play all over the field positionally. ‘24 LHP/UTL Andrew Perry and ‘24 RHP/1B Harrison Vance will throw significant innings and contribute in the lineup. ‘25 OF/P Joshua Delk is athletic and has the tools to be an everyday player for TCA while ‘25 RHP/OF Connor Quarles will provide quality depth on the mound. ‘26 UTL/RHP Owen Atwood and ‘26 RHP/C Max Richardson will be some upside freshmen to keep an eye on this Spring. It will be a very different looking group this year and I think the key word is potential because the youth will have to step up to fill out this roster. Graves will be able to shut down opposing lineups, but they’ll need to have this group step into big roles to make a push to get back to Murfreesboro.
