With good weather, the 2016 regular season got off to a roaring start last week as teams around the state took the field. There were some good weeks put up by teams, but one team stood out as they started their season in impressive fashion.

The Blackman Blaze began their season with a three-game sweep over district rival Smyrna that included a 4-2 win on Monday, an 11-1 rout on Tuesday, and a 2-1 victory in a pitcher’s duel on Wednesday.

On Thursday, a complete-game shutout by DJ Wright propelled Blackman to a 4-0 win over Mt. Juliet in Smyrna’s Grand Slam Challenge Tournament. They followed that up with a 2-1 win over Wilson Central on Friday, and concluded the week with a split on Saturday that included a 9-4 win over Shelbyville.

For the week, the Blaze finished with an impressive 6-1 record, their only loss coming at the hands of Hoover (AL). In their six wins, Blackman outscored opponents by a combined 32-9 clip.

For their outstanding efforts on the field, the Blackman Blaze have been selected as the PBR Tennessee Team of the Week for March 14-19.
