Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

After a deep postseason run in 2023, the Round Rock Dragons bring back another talented team heading into 2024. Coach John Carter’s squad will be built on their defense and returning experience this spring.

Leading the way in 2024 will be senior INF Hudson Ellis (Dallas Baptist) and senior OF Connor Digesualdo (Angelo State). Digesualdo was First Team All-District in 2023, and Ellis was the District’s Offensive Player of the Year. Ellis had a strong showing at our State Games this past September, where he performed well in all facets. A 6.95 runner in the 60, Ellis showcased the range and athleticism to stick up the middle paired with an 85 mph bullet from across the diamond. A right-handed hitter, he generated some pop (91 mph max EV) with a quick bat (69 mph avg. bat speed) to go with his line-drive approach. Ellis is currently ranked No. 38 in the state and No. 319 in the nation, and could be the x-factor for the Dragons in 2024. Four other senior defenders return for Round Rock this spring in OF Nick Dunch (Hill JC), C Dylan Uribe (Yale), INF/UTL Dylan Goddard (UDallas), and UTL/RHP Kie Wooldridge (uncommitted). Also rejoining the Dragons’ defense is junior C/RHP Chris Alsobrooks (uncommitted), who will be a two-way player again in 2024. Joining the varsity squad in 2024 on defense will be another pair of two-way players in CIF/RHP Trajan Godbee (2025; uncommitted) and OF/RHP Jacob Gayman (2025; uncommitted). Gayman is currently ranked No. 167 in the state for his class and should make for a strong addition to the 2024 squad.

Returning on the bump for the Dragons in 2024 will be senior southpaw Sam DeLong (uncommitted). DeLong will be joined by a pair of sophomore newcomers in RHP/CIF Isaac Rodriguez and RHP/OF Josh Horvath. The pitching staff will also receive contributions from previously mentioned two-way players Kie Wooldridge, Chris Alsobrooks, Trajan Godbee, and Jacob Gayman.

Although they lost six seniors off the 2023 team, the Round Rock Dragons still have the returning pieces to be a strong 6A contender again in 2024. With their defense and experience to guide them, look for Round Rock to be a tough team to beat all spring.
