FRISCO, TX - Frisco Wakeland has put together a stellar record so far this spring at 21-3-1 (6-1 District). Much of their success can be attributed to the Wolverines senior class. Even though Stephen F. Austin signee Jared Martin was out of the lineup on Friday, the Wolverines would still start eight seniors, including starting pitcher Cooper Chandler. Chandler came into the night with a record of 4-1, with 50 strikeouts in just 32 innings pitched.

Frisco Liberty would strike first on an RBI double by third baseman Dylan Strater in the top of the first. Wakeland answered with a run of their own in the bottom half when second baseman Collin McDuffee singled to right-centerfield, moved up on an errant pickoff attempt, and later scored on an RBI single by Cooper Chandler.

The Wolverines added another run in the bottom of the second when designated hitter John Gallup knocked in Justin Stout with a single. The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the Wolverines until the fifth inning. That is when the dynamic Wakeland offense exploded for seven runs on seven hits, including two singles by John Gallup. Multiple players would drive in runs for the Wolverines, including McDuffee (2), Thompson, Coats (2), and Wright. Wakeland’s ability to steal bases significantly increased their scoring opportunities as they took nine bags on Friday night, led by John Gallup (3) and courtesy runner Alejandro Rodriguez (2).

But the story of the night was right-hander Cooper Chandler, who continued his dominance, allowing one unearned run on one hit, seven strikeouts and no walks through five innings. The uncommitted senior improved to 5-1 on the season with 57 strikeouts, 7 walks in 37 innings pitched. Wakeland improves to 7-1 in District 13-5A, 22-3-1 overall.

Final Score: Wakeland 9, Liberty 1
